Is there anything sadder than watching that silly schmuk on the dance floor, under the disco ball, pulling out their best robot...? this is usually ME after something high in sugar! :o)
I think there is... its that poor lonely robot, standing in the corner, watching the humans have all the fun, wigglin and jigglin their floppy meaty bodies.
At least thats how it is in my head. And thats why I love the 'Robots wish they could do the human'. It brings an involuntary smile to my lips, and I couldn't resist trying to convey this in cake form.
The obvious choice for this cake, the very hard to find robot heart. It was made with a tangy lemon sponge cake, which I filled with vanilla bean butter cream and homemade passionfruit butter for extra zing! Then it was a matter of frosting it in a light grey butter cream, with darker shades of grey to decorate. Im a little disappointed I couldn't get the text as legible as I would have liked, but I had a fun time piping my little dancing robots on the sides of the cake, and making nuts and bolts with buttercream dough. I tried to create metal shavings, by colouring white chocolate grey and shaving it up... tasted better than it looked. All in all the cake took me around a day-ish.
The cake was demolished at my work. I took it in to share for morning tea, and thought I could make it at home in the workshop with the valve parts.
The only big mistake I made was skipping breakfast and only eating zingy sugary cake... Mmmmmm... Incoherent giggly mess for the rest of the day! Totally worth it!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to have a go at making this cake! It was loads of fun! I hope that you like it and it gives you a smile!!
