Description
This will be my first ever contest to be involved in. I took a cake decorating class about a year ago and have enjoyed making cakes for people. It was sort of a whim to get involved with cakes, but as I have continued to do it, I have really enjoyed it. I usually go for simple and bright colors, so that was why this design intrigued me. I also work with a Non-Profit that is about helping our environment, so what better cake to make than this one.
This was the first time I used things beside cake to create the 3D look. I made rice Krispie treats to make the sun and houses. I wanted to learn how to carve different things and then how it would affect the look of the cake. It was a good way to practice because the shapes were pretty simple.
I also wanted to keep practicing my fondant skills (which are pretty limited) so that was why I chose to use fondant. I learned how to use fondant (even though I really don't like the taste) all on my own and by watching YouTube videos. I want to try using modeling chocolate next! One thing at a time though...
