Nothing Rhymes With Orange cake by teresa foote

Description

The story of the sad orange:

Rhyme-less orange has got the blues. His fruity pals and their fancy names left him behind when he couldn't join their rhyming gang. So, here he sits, crying his eyes out. Little does he know, that fruit gang was eaten long ago, and HE'S NEXT! Heh heh heh...

This cake was inspired by Threadless design "Nothing Rhymes With Orange" by Mike Mitchell. The cake, made from scratch, is flavored with orange extract, as is the delicious buttercream frosting. Marshmallows, powdered sugar, and water, are the ingredients used to make homemade fondant, which form his hands, shoes, legs, arms, face, and tears (boo hoo!). A little black piping gel for the "navel" and shoe stripes, and voila!

It took about 6+ hours in total to build this cake. In order to make a sphere, I baked the cakes in bowls--lowering the temperature and lengthening the time. This was my first time testing out this trick, and I'm happy to say it was a success. Going out tonight with my brothers and husband for Indian on Devon, and then back to our place to eat cake!
