Baron VonFunburger's Haunted Castle Cavalcade cake by Theresa Rountree

Description

This cake was a joint project between my sister, Kim, and I. I'm the baker in the family and she is the artist. We chose this design because it is so fun and cute. The cake is a white almond sour cream sheet cake. I baked it and leveled it off. Then I crumb coated it with a lemon simple syrup and a layer of butter cream frosting. I colored fondant to match the blue of the shirt as best I could and covered the cake. Then it was on to the decorating!

The biggest challenge we faced was the type. After plan A failed...and plan B, we moved on to the very tedious method of pin pricking the outline of the type onto the cake and filling it in with royal icing. This step took about a whole day. Once the type was finished we moved onto the little burger figures. We printed them out from the computer. I cut out the different sections of each little guy and cut out the outline onto rolled fondant with an exacto knife. Kim then painted on the details. Once they dried, I attached them onto the cake with some more royal icing.

Anyway, this cake was super fun and challenging. Not to mention very tasty. Hope you like our entry! Oh and I have to give a big thanks to Kevin for coming over and taking pictures with his fancy camera on such short notice :)
