Description
I made this gem after work. I'm in the Air Force, and I'm the acting chief of a public affairs office. We have a lot of folks deployed, and this week, we sent another one of our own to Iraq.
My staff are huge fans of my cakes. For almost every birthday, promotion, or holiday, you can rest assured knowing that there will likely be a cake -- sometimes decorated, sometimes not. But for this one, I had to impress.
While I'm proud of my amateur fondant efforts, I am most proud that I did not at ALL lick the bowls. (I'm experimenting with a paleolithic diet that denies me grains and sugar! It's killing me! Do I win for resisting the cake batter and buttercream?)
So this kept me up until 2 a.m. from baking, frosting, to carving fondant. I did not participate in the eating portion of the process, but I watched, and that didn't take long at all!
And I have my photographer Valerie to thank for photographing this number in our studio and giving it that patriotic theme!
Good luck, Jake!
