Description
It's a pretty simple cake, really-- I just pulled a butter cake recipe out of a cookbook (butter, self-raising flour, castor sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla essence) then threw in some cocoa and a little extra milk. The icing is made of icing sugar and margarine whisked together, with some cocoa and vanilla essence. Not counting cooking time, the cake and icing took about an hour and a bit. I'm not a very fast cook...
The chickens are marshmallows dipped in yellow food colouring. Each chicken is two marshmallows, stuck back to back. That was messy, and my fingernails are still yellow. Their eyes and wings are drawn on with purple food dye, and their beaks are triangles of cardboard. Again, coloured with... Food dye. Seeing a pattern here? Their legs are skewers cut into pieces, since we had no toothpicks. All up, without including the time it took the marshmallows to dry, that was about forty minutes.
The pedestrian crossing is made from sprinkled icing sugar, though it took a little bit of effort to get it right.
I can't tell you how delicious it tastes yet, since I'm waiting until my little sisters get home from school before cutting into it, but it looks good!
