Description
I make this cake over the course of two days. After scratching out a design, and then getting all of the supplies, I started putting everything together. My bestest buddy Laura baked two yellow sheet cakes (and then I baked another one because, well, little brothers often equal cake disasters.) Then, I cut each cake in half, stacked the halves on top of each other, and used that to carve out each tier. With a knife. after that, I frosted the cake, and rolled out the fondant. And then I covered the tiers each in fondant. Woo. After that, I made the bird out of fondant and gave him little legs, and painted that all with icing colors watered down with, well, water. After I let that dry for a really long time, I used cut painters tape to mark the sides of the umbrella on the bottom tier. I used the same paint to do the blue background, the trees, and then the rest of the cake. Finally, I put the little birdy on top, and then snapped the final shots for you to enjoy. Special thanks to Laura for baking with me, taking pictures of me working, holding up the background in the final photos, and for being all around spifftacular. Oh, and just to clear up some confusion the pictures may cause, both Laura and I are 14.
