Description
This entry was based off the Shirt "Sees the Day". It involved one full box of Trader Joe's Vanilla Cake Mix (only the best in our cakes), homemade frosting of a powdered sugar base, and a few decorative goodies.
The cake itself was baked according to package directions in an 8 inch round pan. The fun started in the decorating process.
The kitchen looked more like an art studio as the many colors of frosting were mixed and blended. First we frosted the cake with a layer of yellow, then added pink to the edge which was slowly worked into the center of the cake to achieve it's sunset look.
We created the tree by drizzling the blue frosting in layers from a spoon to give a three-dimensional effect on a two-dimensional cake. Additional depth was added by using crushed chocolate sprinkles to create shadows.
Final touches included coloured sugar along the edges and candy stars to capture the magical spirit of the original t-shirt design.
