She Doesnt Even Realize cake by Nicole Jeans

Description

Hey, everyone! My name is Nic, and I'm a 35-year-old mom of 2 (5-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy). Since having the kiddos, I've become somewhat fond of baking cakes for the people around me. I've never made money from a cake or sold one to someone, but if I love ya, you just may be surprised with something from my kitchen!

I prefer homemade buttercream, but you just can't do as many fun things with buttercream as you can with fondant - and homemade marshmallow fondant was my choice for these two entries.

I chose two different designs that I thought were really cute - "She Doesn't Even Realize" and "Rocketbird." The original idea I had for "Rocketbird" was to send him sailing upward from the cake, but my little noggin *thought* I was making it less 3D by cutting the form in half and putting him ON the cake versus OVER the cake. Nevertheless, I think he's still a little too 3D for the official rules. Dang!

Both cakes were made over the span of a couple of days (to allow for fondant drying time.)

My little lonely robot is supported by 2 thin dowel legs and a small thin dowel neck. I really wanted him to be standing upright and knew that even hardened fondant wouldn't support his big ol' head or body.

"Rocketbird" is lifted off by store-bought cotton candy. I didn't get the effect I'd hoped for (think billowy) since I don't have a cotton candy machine, but hey, you work with what you've got, right?

I have one more entry in mind, but I haven't decided if I'm ready to go for it. But, I probably will since the idea I have will be a TASTY one... and I really wanted to have a 2D entry, as well.

I can't believe all of the beautiful entries so far!!! GREAT JOBS, guys!!!!

May we all celebrate the unity of eating sugary goodness in our comfy, FABULOUSLY ARTISTIC tees! (I know I sure will!)
