Z A cake by Julie Freund

Description

I'm having a lot of fun with the contest so far, but I really don't need that much cake around. My boyfriend doesn't eat cake, but he likes cupcakes (he INSISTS that there is a difference, and nothing I say or do will change his mind) so I decided to do a cupcake entry so he could take the leftovers to work with him.

I thought the Z-A design was cute, and would work nicely w/cupcakes. I started of w/ a box of devil's food cake mix, but added pudding and subbed kahlua and hazelnut lquer for most of the liquid. I piped homemade buttercream icing on top.

I made the people and letters using colored chocolate, which was more of a pain in the butt than I had thought. There were a lot of colors needed, but not much volume. I made a bunch of paper cones and went to work. That part of the process took me 2-2 1/2 hours, wasn't really watching the time.

I was pretty nervous peeling the figures off of the waxed paper, since they were super thin, but one of edwards scissor-hands hands was the only casualty. I think it turned out pretty cute.
