My Better Half

I've made tiered cakes before, but this is my first experiment with a miniature cake. The bottom tier is only 4 1/2 inches in diameter! I first baked a chocolate cake (it happens to be a vegan recipe, and is de.lish.ous) into a sheet cake and, when cooled, cut out the tiers with round cookie cutters. I iced and decorated the cake with classic Swiss meringue buttercream, also homemade. I wanted a loose interpretation of the teeshirt, one basic half with one "better half," which I believed I achieved while still showcasing my own style of cake decorating--simple, classic and elegant. The tiers unintentionally lean a bit (the cake was so moist, it was almost impossible to trim without sticking to the knife, so I opted to just leave it and still have a cake left to decorate!) but I still think it came out really cute!
