Marshmallow Factory cake by Jordan Todd

Description

This was my first time using fondant and I really had fun with it. I used this cake as an excuse to experiment with it, coloring it, molding it, shaping it, etc. Funny story behind it, though: my dad was eating some of the cake scraps (I made too much cake) and decided to sandwich a piece of fondant between two pieces of cake. I tried to stop him and warn him about the flavor of fondant, but it was too late, he was already going to town. He chewed into it and made a face similar to this: •vv•. It's pretty much tasteless, like a soft rubber. I bought the fondant from my favorite cake supplies place and most cake-makers know it's better to make your own (I was on a time limit and a budget). He spat it out and ran to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Anyway this cake was a lot of fun, it took me a good 7 or 8 hours in the total process. I used food coloring and a toothpick to do all of the details, and that's the part that took me the longest. The clouds are a cream cheese-based icing, and the cake was funfetti, because that's FUN.
