You've Got Some Splaining To Do cake by Jennifer Roberts

Description

I knew that I'd have to make this Threadless design as a threadcake as soon as I got the shirt myself! For a little added humor I made the "momma milk" chocolate cake & the "poppa & baby milk" coconut cake underneath their fondant exteriors. As a kid from a mixed marriage myself, I am fully aware that what a person looks like on the outside may not completely reflect all that he or she is made up of!

As usual, all the cakes were baked from scratch, and I made up a batch of Italian moussaline buttercream that was divided into a batch of chocolate buttercream & a batch of vanilla buttercream. The outer decor of all cakes was a blend of fondant & modeling chocolate.

You'll see that I skewered the cakes through the center, which was mainly so I could lift them easily since they were quite difficult to move around before they were chilled. Other than the skewer, the only other inedible thing in this piece was the cardboard rounds that the cakes were sitting on.

The total cake making process took three days: the cake baking & buttercream making was done on day 1, the cutting & stacking and frosting day 2, and decorating the exteriors in fondant was done on day 3.
