Here is my first ever submission to Threacakes! After waiting almost a year to participate, since I heard of it right after the submission dealine last year, I am so happy that it's on again! :D
I chose the ''Test Pattern'' design because, and don't ask me why cause I don't really know :P, but I kinda always had a fascination for that stripy rainbow display on tvs. As a kid I could look at it for hours (ok maybe minutes! :P) feeling sorta hypnotise by the thing! My only guess is because I always liked colors, especially vivid colors! So yep, Test Pattern = A perfect shirt/cake design for me!
It took me about 3 full evenings to complete it. The first one, I baked the cake, made the royal icing and tint it with all the colors I would need. Second evening was the cake ''montage'' and sculpting and crumb coating. Third one, being the most exciting evening, decorating time! Covering with fondant (chocolate for this one), then paint it in black, make the little color stipes, covering my wood board, place the tv on it and then, the best part, put multicolored icing everywhere! :D
The cake was a yellow cake I made from scratch. I separated the batter in many bowls and colored each little batch a different color before putting it in the pans. I wanted the cake to look as colorful on the inside as it is on the outsied! :D
It was my first attempt at making a cake with so many colors inside.. I was afraid that the baking process would make the colors bleed together or at least fade them a bit.. but to my delighted surprise there was no bleeding at all and the colors stayed as vivid as they were before baking. The frosting was a mix of chocolate and vanilla swiss meringue buttercream that I had in left over in the freezer from cakes I did in the last 2 weeks.
Me and my boyfriend enjoyed a piece in the morning (yes morning!) I took the final pictures. Yummy yummy! Best breakfast ever! Lol!
The rest of the cake ended up in many of my coworkers bellys! ^-^
Fin! :)
