One of These Days, We'll Fly Away!

So, there were a few designs I wanted to do, but seeing how it is almost 4th of July, this one won out for my first attempt! I went to school for Pastry Arts and currently work in a bakery, but I have not had the chance to stack cakes or cover cakes in fondant in almost a year and a half. Ack! Luckily, I still remembered how to do it. Like riding a bike! I used my favorite white cake recipe with vanilla buttercream -- I wanted to go with a simple, sturdy, delicious cake that I could carve and stack and not have to worry about it collapsing in on itself or anything. The whole thing took about 6-7 hours over 4 days. My boyfriend, the lucky recipient of the scraps, described the cake as "delectable."
