Description
Moon Kite is my favorite Threadless shirt. I began by making a couple batches of chocolate cakes and cupcakes from scratch. I was planning on making a 3-tiered cake, but when I began assembling, I decided to have smooth sides instead of breaking up the kite string and stars. The buttercream frosting took a few hours to make because I needed black frosting. I used 2 entire jars of Wilton black coloring to get it the shade I wanted. The filling was made from buttercream frosting and crushed Oreos. The sugar moon was suprisingly easy to make. I molded it out of royal icing. I killed a hand mixer in the process and had to get a new one. I painted the face on the moon with Wilton icing color, blue and black. I made 2 sugar stars as well to make the stream of stars have more dimension. After assembling the cake, I chopped down the sides so it was more of a conical shape, then frosted it. I piped the white tree, stars, and kite string on, and then added the sugar stars. The moon was attached at the top with more royal icing and toothpicks. I took the cake to my friends at a blues dancing night, and they enjoyed it with me (although everyone had black teeth afterwards ^_^).
