Summertime Treat cake by Claire Murphy

Description

Like my mother and grandmother, I have a love of baking weird cakes that people are sometimes afraid to eat. I like bright, colourful cakes, so "Summertime Treat" was a perfect choice for me.
So I mixed up a batch of sponge cake batter, pulled out my trusty food dye and fell into a pit of despair when I realised that pouring batter in 5 straight lines may not be the easiest task in the world. Luckily, I felt I owed it to my food dyes to finish this thing, so I soldiered on.
I separated the batter into 5 bowls and added the appropriate food dyes. After marking out lines on the bottom of the cake tin, I set to pouring the batter in neat lines (this proved rather nerve-wrecking and infuriating). It came out of the oven perfect, and after a little carving (and a lot of snacking), it was ready to decorate. I used dark chocolate icing and did a lot of piping around the edges to ensure a nice raised look on the drips. After that, all it took was a cutting from the outside to act as a lollypop stick and I was finished
