Description
Hello, fellow cake baking, t-shirt wearing, all things creative Threadless lovers! Welcome to my entry! After scrolling through the entire design catalogue, I finally settled on The Deadly Goldmine design because not only was it super cute, and funny it was the perfect image for a 3D design. I also had the idea for the design to look like it was emerging from a t-shirt and felt this design would work perfectly.
The process was very long and tiring, where I had to bake 5 cakes (4 sponges and 1 marble cake with blue food colouring added for fun!) for the base and structure. Once the cake was assembled, the endless process of rolling out the icing began. There were certain points at which I wanted to strangle the icing, as I hadn't realised it would dry so darn quick! However, after the icing and I kissed and made up, we began to work better as a team. Because, the colour pallet was mainly blue, by using very concentrated blue food colouring, I was able to create the different tones needed. Once the main sections were iced, the fun but difficult part began; detailing!! With my trusty, nimble fingers, a bowl of water and cotton swabs I began recreating the design. With determination and endless supply of Prozac the design was finally completed in a mere 60 hours!
The creation did turn out how I had envisioned it to be and when my friends and family came over to see why I wasn’t returning calls, they all seemed very impressed (some gave me weird looks for actually spending all this time making something that inevitably had to be eaten!).
Cutting the cake was quite painful, but once the knife went through, there was no turning back!
All in all a very interesting yet fun experience.
Cake anyone?
