Strange Birds cake by Cora Fung

Description

I'm a cupcaker. I don't make layered cakes because I'm lazy. Then came along a forwarded e-mail from a co-worker and well, here I am.

So this is my first layered cake and working with fondant. If you are an experienced cake person and are looking at my photos, yes, everything that looked like it could fall over, break apart, sink - eventually did.

I am so glad this contest is photo based and I didn't actually have to create the thing live because I ended up getting flour, sugar, cake all over the place, and even in a corner where my husband questioned "How did you manage to get chocolate over here?". Good thing I am good at cropping photos.

While it did take over a lazy week of the bird flowers + 1 really intense weekend (laced with Nachos, movies & dinners with friends and an awesome live magic show featuring Cyril) I thoroughly enjoyed all 40+ hours of it (except for the few hours I spent griping about it not working).

I chose Strange Birds because it looked challenging enough, but not overly so. (Plus, last year's winners had a bird one in Tiffany Blue)

I cannot buy the shirt because I actually prefer the bad-ass looking carebears. But you people should. Buy Strange Birds. Now available in cake.
