Burgervetica cake by Olivia Meny

Description

Recently, I've become a bit obsessed with creating cakes so naturally I was ecstatic when I stumbled upon this site! After narrowing down the plethora of amazing shirt designs I decided I wanted to start out with an interpretive cake. This is the first cake (hopefully there will be more to come soon!) I’ve submitted to threadcakes and it was really fun to make!

The whole process took me about three hours, from baking time to crafting the actual cake, which was much less than I had anticipated. I’ve never made other food out of cake before and it was really fun trying to make the ingredients look realistic. I have a love-hate (leaning more towards hate) relationship with fondant but I was surprised how well the fondant worked with this cake. The cheese, onions and lettuce were made entirely of fondant (with a few painted details) while the tomato was a piece of covered cake. I used two different flavors of cake for this piece, chocolate for the burger and vanilla for the buns.

I had so much fun making this cake and hope to submit more designs soon! Thanks to my friend Hallie who was invaluable to the fondant dying and picture taking process of making this cake!
