Description
Here it is! The Traveling Circus in delicious cakey form!
So, I started by making a few batches of marshmallow fondant. I rolled some out, then painted and cut out all of the characters and things. For the colors I used gel food coloring+vodka.
Then I baked three 13x9 cakes and made some royal icing. The cakes were box mixes with different/extra ingredients (meringue powder, pudding) added for stability which made them easier to carve and less crumbly. The clouds and the icing on the cake are both butter cream. Everything else (flames, smoke, ropes, flag poles, piping on the sign and clouds) were royal icing that I let dry then painted. I'm not really sure how long all of this took me, but luckily, this time I made sure all the pieces were ready before baking the cakes. I'm really pleased with how it turned out(I think the guy on stilts and the cat are my favorites.) :) and I'm happy to say there were very few problems along the way. Now I just have to find a few dozen people to help finish all of that yummy cake.
Thanks for everything!
P.S. The funny thing is, the picture I printed out was a little bit blurry, so for a while I was under the impression that the girl at the very top was a bearded lady. :] Luckily my sisters insisted it wasn't.
