The Choir of Antarctica cake by Ari Yakushik

Description

Well I made the cake in less than 48 hours, while working at my day job. I decided to make it two tier just to make it more interesting. Both layers have plain ol' buttercream, from scratch of course, for the filling and fondant covering it. The Penguins and stripes are out of fondant and the rest it all piped. I decided also to make this a productive cake and since my step dad's birthday is this week and his party is Sunday, we decided to make this his cake!

I picked this design for a few reasons. First I knew that I could expand the idea and create something and add to it while keeping the original shirt. Two I personally love music and am a musician myself so the humor from the shirt totally caught my attention and three, who the heck doesn't love penguins?!

The cake itself is a butter yellow recipe, like I said, with buttercream filling. I added almond extract to the fondant to add some flavor (because I think we all know that on it's own....it's not all that exciting). Once I had the cakes covered and stacked I got all the penguins cut out. I used a square cookie cutter and cut them in half, and used a melon baller to make the curved edges. Once I got them attached on the side if the cake I rolled out the remaining fondant and made the design on the top tier, and began to pipe! The penguins came first, then the music notes, and then the other details. And vola!
