Playin' In The Sprinkler cake by Kegan Warner

Description

This is my absolute favorite Threadless design ever – it just makes me happy! I heard of the contest a few weeks before the long 4th of July weekend when I had planned to go to my parents house, so I called my mom and told her to get her bake face on (she is the greatest baker I know, and most of my life was spent in her kitchen). My mom picked a different design and we stayed up late the night before making s’mores on the stove and talking about our cakes. We started making the cakes the next morning, then spent the afternoon decorating. It was one of the most fun days I’ve had in a long time (favorite moment: my mom lifted the beater up on the mixer and somehow managed to forget it was turned it on. She was covered in batter and laughing hysterically… it was priceless!).

I wanted to emulate the original design as much as possible, so I created my sprinkle sprinkler using the same colors and sizes of sprinkles as the original design. This took much longer than I anticipated so my mom finished first and cleaned the whole kitchen (thanks Mommy! :). I opted to use the background color of the original design and not the shirt because I love grey.

Oh, and this cake is completely fondant-free, made all out of cake, buttercream, a few candy melts, and a gillion sprinkles. The base cake in funfetti, because rainbow sprinkles make EVERYTHING more fun - shirts and especially cakes :)
