A Field With A Dream cake by Chelsea Graham

Description

This cake started with homemade buttermilk white cake. The cake has a great texture for carving so I like to use it for applications like this. The frosting is a classic buttercream with almond. The cake was assembled in four layers and carved with a wicked fillet knife! I chose this design by posting all of the images that I liked on Facebook and had my friends and family take a vote, out of 12 designs this one was the winner.

The only support are a couple of dowels to keep heads from rolling. All of the other components are fondant and gumpaste. Some of the painting was done with powdered pigments and alcohol, and others were done with royal icing. I managed to do all of this in 2 days, because I like to live life dangerously. I started the process on Saturday night knowing I had to be finished by Monday... and then the AC broke. Yes, I think the universe was conspiring against me on this one but it all ended up okay in the end, and the finished product worked out pretty well. Did it taste delicious? Of course it did! It's cake made with blood, sweat and love! (Okay, no real blood or sweat were used, but there's enough love in there to make up for it)
