Summertime Treat cake by Chantal Merrill

Description

This is my sixth entry for Threadcakes this year.. This cake started out this morning as the bane of my existence. I had originally not thought about making this design into a cake, and was baking a pound cake for another cake I had in mind. Well, I used a different mix than I'm used to (which apparently was a mistake lol) and the cake didn't rise high enough to make the cake I had originally set out to do. And I said some not very nice words about this..But, instead of wasting a cake and an afternoon, I got on threadless and looked around the catalog for something that would work with what I had.

Even though the cake didn't bake quite how I wanted it to, it still tasted great!..I carved and put a crumb coat on the cake, then popped it in the freezer to set up for about 15 or 20 minutes, then I let it sit out a bit before giving it the final layer of frosting. Then I covered the cake in rolled white fondant, and painted the rainbow stripes on the bottom and the top corner. Afterwards, I tinted a little more fondant brown and rolled it out over the top of the cake. I cut out the hole where you could see the "bite mark",, and then cut the drip shapes at the bottom of the cake. The finishing touch was a "popsicle stick" made of gumpaste that I tinted brown and painted.
