Italyc cake by Heidi Mace

Description

Fri PM. Discover Threadcakes!! - brilliant as I needes an excuse to bake a new cake. Shortlist a bunch of designs I like

Sat AM. Review choices and select Italyc as I like the idea of doing a tall cake but on a really small scale

Sat PM. Bake my cake - a dark choc mud cake.
Use 2.5 inch cookie cutters to get 6 layers and a 2 inch for the top one
Prepare the dark choc ganache

Sun AM. Ganache the layers and build my tower. Surprise myself... its not leaning even with no central support

Sun PM. Colour RTR fondant, roll and "wrap" the tower in it with a small circle for the top.
Search the house for something resembling an arch and find pop sticks.
Use these to indent the arche shape but fondant is drying by time I get to the top and it not so easy to squish anymore, now gives the illusion that its leaning abit
Use an exacto knife to cut away the bottom arches and reveal the dark choc that is underneath. Decide at this point not to do this with the 70 odd smaller arches and paint them with brown edible paint instead.

Mon PM. Continue painting the arches and then with white paint outline each of them.

Tues PM. Still painting the outlines...
Make the font box with sugar paste and paint the blue strip. Make the arrow.

Wed PM. This cake is getting finished tonight... we want to eat it!
Make the railings with thinly rolled sugar paste and bend around various glasses to get the round shape.
Move tower to its new footings, add some cobblestoned fondant, the railings and font box

Finished cake is 9" high

And finally carve this yummy baby up!
