The General

I wasn't planning on doing another entry but I liked the General so much that I couldn't resist doing just one more cake. I also used it as an opportunity to try out some different vanilla cake recipes. I baked four 6 inch round cakes and layered them with chocolate buttercream. I carved the sides and then I made rice krispie treats to build up the rest of the bear shape. I used the piece i had trimmed off the top of the cake as the peak of the cap and used the rice krispies to the rest of the cap, the then coved everything in buttercream. I then had to cover the bear and hat in sugarpaste, the bear was big and an odd shape so i had to use a few pieces to cover it. I've never done this before so had some trouble blending the edges together. I airbrushed the rest of the detail and colour onto the bear and hat and when it was dry I attached the hat to the bear using cocktail sticks.
