This design had robots, ninjas, pirates, aaand zombies!!!! 4 excellent things to incorporate into a cake. I had to do it.
First I turned to my beloved Telephone Brand Agar-Agar powder and made fondant following a vegan recipe I found online a few years ago. I tinted some black, which tinted my hands pink, and worked to make the figures come to life. I was pretty ambitious the first day, and spent the whole day working on the ninjas with the Lifetime channel on in the background (it happened to be on, and I got somewhat sucked in to the Project Runway marathon, followed by some movie about a girl forgiving her former alcoholic mother).
I worked on the rest of the little dudes here and there for the next two weeks. As much as I hate inedible elements on a cake, I did have to use a few toothpicks here and there to keep the heads on and such. But the toothpicks are the only supports used on the cake and if you really wanted to eat them, you probably could...
Next I mashed up some bananas and made banana cake - my favorite, whipped up some buttercream icing and fresh fondant, and assembled the cake. As long as it took, I'm glad I did it. Enjoy :)
