12 Club Subscription

After dealing with white cake, chocolate cake, strawberry cake, chocolate frosting, white frosting, powdered sugar, marshmallows . . . it was apt that my final Threadcake be based on the 12 club subscription design called Sugar Machine. This was my time to play with fondant for the first time. Fondant, which has always seemed to be the abracadabra of the cake decorating world. I had already made a chocolate chocolate chip cake with chocolate icing (mmm chocolate). After getting powdered sugar on everything (my camera, my clothes, my mouth) while making the fondant, I dyed it and rolled it out. In retrospect, I should have called upon the Geometry gods when figuring out how everything was going to fit on the cake. But, when you are in the throws of a sweetness buzz, small details don't matter. It turned into a bit of a patchwork candy disaster in the end. Luckily, the coworkers didn't mind and it was eaten without nary a complaint of unmeasured proportions.
