The Big Picture

As soon as I saw this shirt design I knew I wanted to make it into a cake. I started by making rectangles and circles out of gum paste and painting them to look like the pictures in the design. I also made the frames out of gum paste, adding details with royal icing. When they were dry I attached the frames to the pictures. I then made the figures, also out of gum paste using dowels and/or wire as support. The cake consisted of 3 tiers, a 4", 6" and 8" rounds. The flavour was chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. I covered them in white fondant and stacked them. Then all that was left to do was assemble it all. In total this cake took me about 8-10 hours. And it was delicious!
