Furious Fowl cake by Pam Rasnic

Description

I recently heard about Threadcakes on facebook, so I looked and looked through the designs and finaly found something I liked.

I tried a new recipe for a dense chocolate cake, and boy is it dense! A little hard to carve but I prevailed. I stacked the cakes and cut out the eyes and added the bottom of the snout, then covered the whole thing in fondant. Next came the wrinkles and building up the eyes and another layer of fondant. The birds, apples & eggs are hand molded from a 50/50 gumpaste/fondant mix. The crown is cut from gumpaste and painted with a gold food grade edible glaze. The slingshot is made from marbled fondant.
The small fowl's ears are hand molded and attached without supports, the large fowl's ears required small dowels for support. The birds are held in place with toothpicks. Airbrushing helped give detail and depth to this design.

I spent about 6 hours on the detail work for this cake. After completing this cake I was very please with the results, didn't want to cut it, but cut it I did!
