A Room With A View

My husband helped me pick out the design this year. We both absolutely loved this image and felt it would lend itself well to cake! I printed it as large as I could on a piece of paper and discovered that a six inch round would fit perfectly as the base. I made a two dimensional fondant plaque of the girl that lays on top of the cake, overlapping the top and bottom like the design.

I traced a template of the whole design and used it throughout the process to keep my dimensions and shapes exact. As I worked, I realized that this design is very richly layered with subtle colors and details. It was definitely a challenge.

The final cake is vanilla with vanilla buttercream filling. It is iced in buttercream. The background details on the cake are hand piped in buttercream. Then the fondant plaque was attached on top.
