I'm so excited to be entering this contest for the first time! I wanted to make my Mom a birthday cake, and since her only instructions were for it to be chocolate, I figured I'd take some creative liberties and thumb through the threadless catalog.
I made a 4-layer, 6" chocolate fudge cake with my delicious chocolate buttercream filling and cavity-inducing vanilla buttercream icing. I baked my cake layers and mixed my icings on Saturday, so that it would take a little less time to put everything together the next day, while simultaneously convincing my 1-year old that I can't hold him and work a piping bag at the same time.
I wanted the cake to be clean and white, with just the phonograph design piped on the side and the rose coming out the top. It's not perfect, but I like it a lot, and most importantly, my Mom enjoyed it too.
