Pocketfuls of Sunshine cake by Brooke Kelly

Description

I chose this design because I wanted to make something that was fun, bright and cheerful. I also like to challenge myself with each new cake, so my new skill with this design was painting on buttercream. I made the 8" pumpkin cakes one day and the filling and icing another. The filling is a caramel fudge icing and the outside of the cake is covered in my standard vanilla butttercream. After chilling the cake in the fridge overnight, I cut the hexagon design into the buttercream with a small pastry cutter. Then I hand painted all of the colors on using gel colors, diluted with vodka. After that I piped on the borders with some of the extra vanilla buttercream. I can't wait to try a piece!
