Avian

This was a fun one! The only hard part was making sure I had all the pieces. I made little templates for myself out of tracing paper, but they turned out to be more trouble than they were worth. It's super hot here, and without air conditioning I had my fan going something fierce - and that didn't play too nicely with my little tracing paper friends... After painting the fondant pieces and letting everything harden up, assembling it all with the help of some stiff royal icing was quick work! I made a lemon sheet cake with lemon icing, and though the cake fell apart a little bit during the transfer from the cake pan to its final resting place, it wasn't anything a little more frosting couldn't fix.

All told, the decorating took about 6-8 hours over the course of 5 days. Hoping this heat wave passes so I'll be able to turn my oven on again without melting myself!
