Nosferatu cake by Julie Viens

Description

When I saw this design I was instantly smitten with it and wanted to make it for Threadcakes. I love the many layers of the artwork and the triptych panels that tell a very classic story. Thank you to the t-shirt designer for such a great design to work with.

For this cake I used fondant. Then I hand painted the background and characters using edible food coloring gel and clear rum. When those were completed, I took black fondant and used it to make the subterranean cobbled bricks that frame the figures and their environment. For a finishing touch I used some edible glitter sprinkled about, to pick up the snowy/rainy aspect of the background and give the cake a shimmery look to go with it's mythic storyline. The whole cake took about 7 hours to decorate, there was some dry time needed on the painted elements.

I am pretty much still head over heels for this design. It is the only cake I've ever made where I didn't want to cut it. But... as you can tell from the photos we did. Please enjoy the Nosferatu. I know we did, he was a lovely guest, in cake form.
