Description
I chose this design because I love cats, and this was one of my favorites Threadless cats.
I thougt that it would be fun and challenging to create a 3D cake that would match de painting at the bottom tier.
For the bottom I used a round cake to create the pond. After filling and ganaching it, I covered it with yellow sugarpaste. I airbrushed everything black excepting the yellow/orange part, and created some orange shades on the yellow. Than I painted the details black. With a damp brush I took some of the black off to make appear some yellow details like de bubbles and the top lines.
For the top part of the cake I sculpted the cat out of a chocolate round cake filled with chocolate ganache. I managed to create the cat without using any structure or support. I first covered it with modeling chocolate to make it easier to get the right shape and than covered everything with the yellow sugarpaste. I airbrushed the cat with black and orange to create the shades on his body and face and after that I added the eyes. With a large brush I did some strokes to make more similar to the original design. The whiskers ar made of white sugarflower wires painted.
I made some algae with wires and white florist tape and airbrushed them yellow.
I painted the white furs at the bottom and added some sugarpaste ones to the board to create a 3D effect.
For the back scenary I used a board covered in yellow and aibrushed in black and orange. Than took some of the black off for the stars.
It wasn't easy to match everything and it didn't turned out exactly as I wanted but I still quite like the effect.
My kids and hubby were too shy to appear at the photo so it's only me with a slice of cake. :)
