Description
This is my second entry to threadcakes. I submitted one last year too. I chose this design because I think its beautiful and instantly fell in love with it when I saw it!
The cake sponge is funfetti and I covered it with chocolate ganache. I baked the cake in two pans and joined the pieces together later. I covered the top of the cake with white fondant once after I had finished ganaching it. I did this to prevent disaster while applying the painted fondant layer, incase I applied it crooked and cracked it while adjusting it around.
I traced the image onto butter paper and left impressions on the fondant layer. I painted along the impressions with water and Americolor gels. It took me 3 days to make this cake. I covered the sides of cake with black fondant. I realized later that I forgot to paint her thumb! I had to wash out the black colour and quickly painted in the thumb! Although it wouldn't have been too tragic had she not had a thumb, she is a zombie after all!
My friends and I really enjoyed eating it! One friend didn't let me cut the face and took it home with her. She managed to ease off the face from the fondant underneath and put it in her freezer. I think its still there.
