Hi everyone! My cake served a dual purpose. Our Virginia Living Museum held a contest to see who could make the best cake to celebrate their 50th birthday, so I picked a design that would work for that. The Living Museum is similar to a zoo, and while they don't have any cute little house kittens, they do have a bobcat exhibit. So, I decided to make my kitten a bobcat kitten. I also wanted to extend the red, ivory and teal color scheme to the inside of the cake. You can see in one of the pictures, the red cakes are baked and the ivory and teal are ready to go in the oven!
For my structure, I just used pipe covered in plastic wrap. 8" cakes were stacked and carved down into the right shape then covered in buttercream and fondant. The ears were made out of gum paste, and the fondant was hand-painted and airbrushed.
Once completed, I delivered to the Living Museum. Unfortunately, they started the cake cutting a little earlier than scheduled, so I didn't get back in time to get a good picture of the cutting. I did get some cute pics of my daughters enjoying it though!
