Pancakes Mountain

Description
Being an avid baker and lover of making confections that look like other foods, Pancakes Mountain was the obvious choice for me. Over the course of nearly a fortnight, I constructed this cake and its components. Two batches of homemade fondant, two attempts at covering it, two batches of frosting, several layers of cake, a run-in with a very nosy puppy, a bought of panic when I saw a few completed entries (thanks a lot, Cakewrecks!) about a hundred mental pep talks and, finally, success!
The final product is 100% edible and is made from layers of butter cake, maple buttercream frosting, homemade marshmallow fondant (a million times tastier than store bought,) homemade maple caramel "syrup," cocoa powder shading, fondant "trees" and edible dye-painted rock candy "boulders" (I gave up on the idea of dusting them in cocoa powder as this proved too messy.)
Everything is hand moulded, hand formed and quite tasty! My husband's officemates were the recipients and they tore into it as you can see.
