peliCAN

peliCAN is my first Threadcake of 2010 in support of Threadless’ wonderful efforts to contribute and reach out in the wake of such a terrible and on-going disaster. As an amateur cake baker/designer I had a few bumps along the way creating everything from scratch, something I didn’t do last time around. The cake is a yellow buttercream with buttercream icing topped with rolled fondant and dark melting chocolate. You’ll notice as you look through the pictures I started to paint the fondant, but later decided to cover the fondant in chocolate to give the cake a more cohesive look. So after 13 hours I was able to have my cake and eat it too! A big thank you goes out to my mom who stayed up with me and helped me hold up the pelican as I worked the chocolate base! I hope you all like it, I sure enjoyed it! Thanks.
