Shh...

My good friends Chris and Jessie are moving to Iowa this month. They threw themselves a goodbye party at the bar where Chris and I work, and I volunteered to make them a cake. I chose the design "Shh..." because I think it's pretty and because Chris and Jessie are big nature people -- they love hiking, camping, and generally hanging out outside. I also liked the design because it gave me to opportunity to watercolor on fondant. Not that I consider myself a painter in any way, but it was fun! The bird and flowers were gum paste that I later painted with watered-down food coloring. I really wanted to give the cake the watercolor feel that the shirt design has. The cake was a peanut butter and nutella checkerboard cake (recipe from iheartcuppycakes.com) as was Chris and Jessie's request. I love the way it came out. It was a pretty cake, and very delicious!
