A Voyage To Lilliput

What an awesome T-shirt design to try to duplicate! The details were inspiring, especially for a 3D cake. While baking and frosting this cake only took a few hours, it took a few more hours of trial and error just to get two decent-looking ladders! Several attempts crumbled quickly, but a modified icing tip and flattened gum paste proved to work best. The popsickle sticks were made from gum paste, too. Duncan Hines yellow cake mixes baked beautifully, as usual, and homemade buttercream icing frosted the base cake and crumb coated the sneaker cake. Wilton's Rolled Fondant worked like a charm for the sneaker exterior, which I hand painted using teal food coloring paste. I also used moss green, red, and brown coloring. Piping the little Lilliputians was really fun, and then eating the cake was a sweet treat!
