Description
So I LOVED Scooby Doo as a kid. My brother and I would sit up and watch it all night if we could. Buuuut I also love myself some Zombies ;)
and so this design was a no brainer. I knew I would be really busy this past weekend, but I REALLY wanted to get this last one in before the contest ended (any excuse to decorate some cool cakes!)
So I made the Velma and Scooby figurines last week and made the backdrop and "Misery Machine" ahead of time and that way all I had to do was assemble the cake and pop them all into place. The figurines have paper clip and foil structures (I know, I know, I just didn't have anything else on hand) and are made from modeling chocolate and fondant. The backdrop is a cake board covered in fondant. The "Misery Machine" was fondant that I cut out and then colored/painted with edible food markers and a combination of gel food coloring and vodka.
The cake itself is just a single layer 1/4 sheet split and filled. It's half devil's food cake, half white cake, filled with chocolate whipped cream and covered in Italian Meringue Buttercream and Fondant. After I assembled the cake, I "glued" the backdrop I made to the cake with piping gel. and put some hot glue along the back on the boards (just in case). Then I put the ribbon around the board and filled in the space with a mixture of crushed oreos and cocoa powder. I threw some on the cake for good measure too :)
Then I put Velma and Scooby into place and it was complete! Enjoy :)
