Unicorn cake by Chloe Bird

Description

The kitch unicorn and the visual pun make me happy in a way that usually only tequila can manage, so I thought I should cake this one up.
I made a round plain sponge, sandwiched it with jam then covered it with butter icing (plus an amount of food dye that would send a small child hyperactive for a week). I used sugar paste for the unicorn and painted the design on with more food dye.
I guess it took about 3 hours, if I exclude cooking and cooling times. Making the cakes and covering them with green butter icing was pretty straightforward, cutting out the unicorn and colouring him (I like to think it's a he) in took a fair while. I used icing sugar to stencil the white flash, then placed the unicorn ontop.
I think it worked out quite well, I took it up to work to share the cakey goodness, everyone has green tongues now!
