Description
I only found out this past weekend that the threadcakes contest was going on--and that this was the last weekend to create! I love this contest, and have submitted entries for the past three years. I love the challenge, and cake. I love this design. I love the over cuteness of it all. It is so modern with everyone posing for the selfie. I love that all the animals are showing "peace".
I made the cake early in the day. I was lucky to have some left over frosting in the freezer to use. I decided to try my hand at a 3-D cake, as this is not my usual. I made the elephant first. It was most difficult, because gravity won. I stacked the cake, frosted it, then put the fondant on. I followed this pattern for the hippo and bear. The giraffe is all marshmallow. The koala and bunny are all fondant.
Once the cakes were coated in fondant, I put the cakes together. I thought it would be easy to poke toothpicks in, then add them to the elephant. But gravity was winning. But I pressed on!
The animals all got attached, despite gravity's persistence, and I finished by painting the eyes and smiles on each animal. I also painted the giraffe's spots. Despite my struggle with gravity (the elephant is a true pakiderm), I think I did capture the cuteness of this design.
My husband and I enjoyed the cake for dessert. I am so happy that I had the chance to complete an entry for this year!
