Comfy Bed cake by Trisha Powers

Description

This cute design is just too cute to not create! Here is how I did it: the white panda bear has been carved out of a chocolate loaf cake, then frosted. The smaller critters are made out of left over cake and frosting. The photograph of this mixture looks disturbingly like ground meat. But do not worry, I am a vegetarian, so it isn't meat of any sort. After I formed the critters, I stacked them on top of the white panda. I realized I had to change the angles of the fox/racoon/red panda critter so everyone could see it. Same thing with the tiny top critter. This is the beauty of creating 3-D from a 2-D image.
Oops, I skipped a few steps: after I formed each critter, I finished frosting each one at a time. I felt very strongly that this cake should all be done in buttercream. There is no fondant or inner structure inside this cake.
After stacking the critters and outlining the animals I made the background. I used sugar cookie dough and made a square. After it baked, I used butter cream frosting to paint the sky, grass, and trees with leaves.
I took the cake over to a beach swimming party, where people enjoyed the cute and comfy critters.
